Solitary shoe bears witness to tornado's wrath

8. června 2011 v 3:34

On the day that the tornado of '11 hit our region, I was in the South End neighborhood of Springfield a few hours after it struck. The stability and low profile sole of christian shoes is what improves the grounded performance of sports men and hence makes it popular.Shoes mbt customers can purchase the gift vouchers online via a special Transactional Micro Portal within the retailer's website in values of £10 to £300. Early evidence of the performance of the mobile vouchers from Oasis - a sister company of Karen Millen - shows this form of voucher outsells paper and plastic vouchers online by a factor of three to one

There was considerable damage, including a blown-off roof and many blown-out windows, to the brick buildings of the street that I was on. The street was littered with debris, a visual representation of the fact that tornadoes are not neat by nature; they make a mess and leave it behind for others to clean up. Hence, an expression like "he (or she) goes through other people's lives like a tornado."

This street had no residential apartment buildings or houses, but ensconced in a small pile with building material debris was an object that caught my eye: one woman's black, high-heeled dress shoe.

"Minimalism," according to Webster's Dictionary, is "a style or technique (as in music or design) that is characterized by few or simple elements."

With the black dress shoe standing out amidst the rubble, the wind had arranged its own "minimalist" sculpture, symbolizing the randomness and unpredictability that is always ready to strike, whether or not our back is turned, and mocking our illusions of fixed order and control.

If I begin to deconstruct how one black dress shoe wound up amidst the detritus, two scenarios come most prominently to my mind: Either a woman literally ran herself out of her shoes in her frantic haste as the vortex bore down on her, or the tornado had reached into a residence on a nearby street and snatched the shoe out of its neatly appointed place in a closet.

In the first scenario, with the woman running out of her shoes, I can only think of how, when she put her shoes on that morning, perhaps to go to work in a nearby office, there may have been a lot of thoughts running through her mind ("static in the attic," a friend of mine calls it). But, none of her thoughts could have involved her running for her life from a tornado, and out of her shoes, nine hours later.
